I have tried both of these sites before in the past, offering services and for me they have been a big waste of time to the point that I actually would never touch them. Also as a developer I found they were devaluing the industry. Having a bunch of programmers bid the lowest amount to win work is not a great idea. It promotes bad practices, and 9/10 you’ll end up with some ’script kiddy’ 12 year old kid in his mums basement. IMHO – its sites like that which have cost the web design & development industry dearly. My 2 cents on that.
Just to add to that, I have often been told “Oh well i could get it done cheaper on elance”. My reply to that is usually “So go do that”.

LOL alan that’s true. Actually i just read an interview on retireat21.com that said just that “you’ll never be the cheapest so stop trying to be.” I think it was the guy from usedcisco.com that said that, but don’t quote me.
Anyway, yeah, i’ve given up in collectibles trying to offer the cheapest consignor rates. I just make sure i give the best value i can. Dean, actually that’d be a great topic to go over in a future podcast b/c i know that you have some strong feelings on how to value your time, etc… would love to hear your insights

In terms of elance.com, yep i reckon that is dying a death, rentacoder I have had no problems with, but I have never had any software created.
Do you have any ideas where a person who wants to get software created should go?

Tammy, great topic for future shows, people in this industry and every one find it hard to do this, and I feel it is down to lack of proper planning and motivation to get things done. Example… creating another stream of income or watching ‘Friends’ for the 4th time in a day (yes I am guilty some times).

Hey dean, i think the way it works is that sometimes things get stuck in there b/c anyone who hasn’t commented before must be approved but once they are approved once they can post with ease in the future. Might be a necessary evil if your show gets big enough though, otherwise out come the spammers!
